Summer is love, lust, and new beginnings in Cali. So many things happen during the year, but it’s summertime that’s most memorable. The air fills with excitement and anticipation, the smell of sea salt mixed with life. My summertime essentials:

Dance
Hikes to waterfalls
Water, water, water
Strawberry cheesecake ice cream
Bikinis, sunscreen, shades
Surfer boys, skater boys
Sand, fun, drinks, love

Summer time is a magical time. The California sun shines brightly and into the night. The days are long and the fun lasts even longer. Drinks run through the night. Smoke fills the air and lungs. It’s all fun and games, indulgence and abandonment. To love with abandon, like tomorrow will never come, to live in the moment, to forget and forget, are the joys of summer. The moment leaves and a sadness remains, of a love that was pure, a youth, an innocence, a beauty that cannot last until the morning sun. To be kissed by the sun, by the son. Kiss me before you go.

Feeling Lucky

Another intensive ballet season is about to start. I am looking forward to it. It’s a study of grace and beauty. When the summer fun and flings are over, life begins anew. I feel blessed to be loved by the most beautiful guy I’ve known. I am the luckiest girl.

Summer Sadness

Driving along PCH to the sounds of crashing waves and cars speeding by, I am aware of the end of summer and the beginning of a new life. Summer love turns bittersweet. There’s no holding on, only letting go of its ephemeral beauty. Yet with every season, there’s change and renewal. Fall brings its own joy.

Not Leaving Yet

Summer is my favorite time of year. On days when I don’t have ballet, I like to do something fun and active to stay in shape. I hike, bike, and swim. To summer flings and all things lovely, there’s another couple of weeks left!

Looking through the branches at the trees and sky. Leaves cast shadows on ground make interesting designs. Green leaves dangle from trees create positive and negative spaces against the light. Sunlight illuminates the path. Leaves in different colors bask in the sun. Leaves swing back and forth in the wind. Trees, sky, and sunlight create a stunning landscape. Springing up Roses

Everywhere I turn, I’ve noticed beautiful roses in bloom. They brighten up my day, colorful, romantic, and full-bodied. They are one of my favorite flowers. The air is fragrant, and love is in the air!

Dance is Love. Love is Dance.

Dance has changed my life. It is life, love, and the reason for living. It is hard work and dedication. I spend hours in the studio to strengthen my body and improve my technique. Through dance, I hope to achieve beauty, grace, and freedom. Martha Graham, the mother of modern dance, sums it up well regarding the dancer.

“Discipline imposed by you, yourself, upon yourself… your goal is freedom, but freedom may only be achieved through discipline… in class, you learn to conform; to submit yourself to the demands of your craft so you may finally be free…”

When I am totally free, I don’t feel my body, but I am in my body. Every movement leads to another and it’s a continuous expression. Pure bliss!
