January 10, 2006Walks at NightRecently on my nightly walks, I've noticed lights from windows. They remind me that I am not the only one who enjoys staying up late. They are a welcomed sight in the dark, sometimes, I even spot a warm body moving about. What is my fascination with lit windows in the dark? Am I a voyeur? Do I long for connection? Looking in, I see a glimpse of the occupants' lives. In the still darkness, I let my mind wander. Posted by kathychin at 2:06 AM
November 16, 2004Night Driving Along the BoulevardThe city looks different at night - more mysterious with the buildings highlighted by lights and people lit by street lights. I tried to capture that sense of serenity when I am driving at night. Posted by kathychin at 12:47 AM
October 2, 2004Black Angels Fly into the Depth of Night
I live in a city that does not sleep at night. I don't sleep much at night so it's a great match. After midnight is when all the interesting characters come out. Tonight while driving through West Hollywood, I saw a couple of well-built and tanned guys walking around in their black briefs and black angel wings. They were as much a turn-on as the Victoria Secret models. Their struts were confident and sexual. They were turning heads all around them. Too bad I didn't get a snap of them. The interesting, random patterns created by this brightly lit city intriqued me. The abstraction of shapes and compositions in the dark gave me a sense of the layout of city without overwhelming my senses. The interactions between street and traffic lights, neon signs and interiorly lit buildings create an energy of constant motion and change. Nothing is static for long. Posted by kathychin at 3:45 AM
July 9, 2004I love night - its quiet, darkness, and mysteriousness. There are days when I wish night would last forever. The stillness I feel, I want that to last forever. Even the trees look more beautiful at night. Posted by kathychin at 12:31 AM
July 8, 2004Looks like sacred light...I was stopped by the light emitting from this doorway. Looking inward, the light coming from the ceililng reminds me of the "sacred" light in cathedrals and chapels, coming from the heavens above. It was a special sight. The shape of the doorway and lights coming from overhead through a transluscent surface created a vision of hope and enlightment. Is there really a god? Is there salvation and enlightment? Is there good and evil? Which side am I on? Those are all questions that rush through my mind as I stared into the light, mersmerized. Posted by kathychin at 2:08 AM
June 29, 2004Santa Monica Promenade, CA - Quiet of NightStillness of night permeates the otherwise bustling street, where artists perform, shoppers bargain, and lovers stroll. The Apple store is one of the latest additions to the strip.
